Discourse 50
Never man spake like this man—Jesus Confounds his cricks in Jerusalem
After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in
Jewry, because Jews sought to kill him. Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was
at hand. His brethren therefore said
unto him, “Depart hence, and go into Judea, that thy disciples also may see the
works that thou doest. For there is no man that doeth in any thing in secret,
and he himself seeketh to be known openly.
If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.” For neither did his brethren believe in him.
Then Jesus said unto them, “My time is not yet come: but your time is
always ready. The world cannot hate you;
but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works there of are evil. Go
ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet
full come.” When he had said these words
unto them, he abode still in Galilee.
But when his
brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as
it were in secret. Then the Jesus sought
him at the feast, and said, “”Where is he?”
And there were much murmuring among the people concerning him, for some
said, “He is a good man”: others said, “Nay; but he deceiveth the people.” Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear
of the Jews.
Now about the midst
of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. And the Jews marvelled, saying, “How knoweth
this man letters, having never learned?”
Jesus answered them,
and said, “My doctrine is not mine, but His that sent me. If any man will do His will, he shall know of
the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own
glory: but he that seeketh His glory that sent him, the same is true, and no
unrighteousness is in him. Did not Moses
give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill
me?”
The people answered
and said, “Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
Jesus answered and
said unto them, “I have done one work, and ye all marvel. Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision ;
(not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the Sabbath day
circumcise a man. If a man on the Sabbath day receive circumcision, that the
law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a
man every whit whole on the Sabbath day?
Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”
Then said some of
them of Jerusalem, “Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say
nothing unto him. Do the rulers know
indeed this is the very Christ? Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when
Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.”
Then cried Jesus in
Temple as he taught, saying, “Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I
am not come of myself, but He that sent me is true, whom ye know not. But I know Him: for I am from Him, and He
hath sent me.”
Then they sought to
take him: but no man laid his hands on him, because his hour was not yet
come. And many of the people believed on
him, and said, “When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which
this man hath done?”
The Pharisees heard
that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the
chief priests sent officers to take him.
Then said Jesus unto
them, “Yet a little while am I with you,
and then I go unto Him that sent me. Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me:
and where I am, thither ye cannot come.”
Then said the Jews
among themselves, “Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? Will he go
unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? What manner of saying is this that he said,
“Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot
come’?”
In the last day,
that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If any man thirst,
let him come unto me, and drink. He that
believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers
of living water.” (But this spake he of
the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost
was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Many of the people
therefore, when they heard this saying, said, “Of a truth this is the
Prophet.” Others said, “This is the
Christ.” But some said, “Shall Christ
come out of Galilee? Hath not the scripture said, that Christ cometh of the
seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?” So there was a division among the people
because of him. And some them would have
taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said
unto them, “Why have ye not brought him?”
The officers answered, “Never man spake like this man.”
Then answered them
the Pharisees, “Are ye also deceived? Have any of the rulers or of the
Pharisees believed on him? But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.”
Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,)
“Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?” They
answered and said unto him, “Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for
out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.” And
every man went into his own house.”
John 7:1--53

John 7:1--9
Curiosity seekers,
some of his own ‘brethren, relatives, inner circle of disciples, and other
sundry followed Jesus. The brethren wanted Jesus to perform the miracles not
only in front of his believers, but before all others by going to the Jewish
Feast of Tabernacles. They wanted the Jesus should display his prowess. Jesus could not be tempted to demonstrate his
miracles. A divine life is guided by God-received intuition.
Jesus said: All aspects
of my life, the minute details of my plans and actions, are governed by the
influence of the will of God on the free choices made by my will. I love the world and want it to be saved, so
I mind not the penalty I shall pay for daring to expose its faults. Happiness, success, and peace of mind accrue
by striving in everything to attune oneself through meditation and prayers with
God’s will.
But when his brethren were gone up, then
went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. Then the Jesus sought him at the feast, and
said, “”Where is he?” And there were
much murmuring among the people concerning him, for some said, “He is a good

John 7:10—20
Jesus said: My teachings are His that sent
me. Everything of mine is His only. My
knowledge that has come through the soul contact with Infinite Wisdom of His. I
am attuned with His will. I preach truth desired by Him.
Jesus did not go to school. His knowledge
did not come of pedantic traditions of ordinary or religious schooling. Jesus
said: I came to declare Him. Moses did not give you the law to kill. How is ii
that you disobey his commandment. I know this intent of killing is is your
mind. It is a pretext of yours that is
‘I am deranged by a devil’.
Yaavaanartha udaapaane sarvatah samplutodake
Taavaan sarveshuvedeshu Braahmanasya vijaanatah Gita 2--46
What is the utility of small water bodies like well etc
when there is a flood of stream water, abundance of water bodies, around. Likewise the knower of Parabrahman will have
the ultimate beatitude which encompasses all the uses said of the acts and
deeds of Karma Kanda in Vedas. In
comparison this beatitude is unparallel.
Jesus answered and
said unto them, “I have done one work, and ye all marvel. Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision ;
(not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the Sabbath day
circumcise a man. If a man on the Sabbath day receive circumcision, that the
law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a
man every whit whole on the Sabbath day?
Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” John 7:21—24
Jesus said: ‘I have done one
work’ Jesus implies that at the pool of
Bethesda he healed the impotent man on the Sabbath. This has provoked the
authorities in regard to murderous wrath against Jesus. “And therefore did
the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him because he had done these
things on the Sabbath day.” John 5:1—18
Circumcision was permitted on Sabbath day. “Judge not actions of
others from a hasty, superficial standpoint, but judge wisely according to the
righteousness of the motive behind them.”
Then cried Jesus in Temple as he
taught, saying, “Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of
myself, but He that sent me is true, whom ye know not. But I know Him: for I am from Him, and He
hath sent me.” John 7:25—29
Jesus was incarnated
as a free soul. Jesus was sent on earth by the will of God. People knew very
well that the Pharisees wanted the life of Jesus. Jesus was daring to teach openly and boldly
at the feast of Tabernacles. They were
of the view that rulers become convinced that Jesus was Messiah.
Jesus said: You know
me as the son of Joseph and my home. But you do not know my true origin. My
Father is immanent in all space. You people do not feel His Omnipresence. My
Christ Consciousness is reflection of Cosmic Consciousness of Father.
What manner of saying is this that he said,
“Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot
come’?” John 7:30—36
Jesus said: This
little body will be on earth for some little while. People will realize me
after I am gone. When I was easily accessible on eqarth you did not approach
me. My Christ Consciousness is now and shall remain forever and it is eternal.
Ordinary people are ignorant of Christ Consciousness. But it their good fortune
or a little good karma that they could see me in my body encasement. In Spirit
there is no past or Future, only the everlasting present. God always is. Jesus
expressed that everlasting Consciousness by saying, “Where I am”. Jesus said: “Before Abraham was, I am.”
In the last day, that great day of
the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If any man thirst, let him come unto
me, and drink. He that believeth on me,
as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living
water.” (But this spake he of the
Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was
not yet glorified.) John 7:37—39
Life force and consciousness ascend from
body consciousness as ‘Rivers of living water’ through spinal centres to
God-consciousness. This would be understood
by those who would be in tune with Christ Consciousness.
Descending into creation—into every particle
of thought, life energy, and matter constituting the causal, astral, and
physical realms—Cosmic Consciousness is called Christ Consciousness (Kootastha
Chaitanya).
Flowing into the soul and pure mind of man,
it is called Super-consciousness.
Carried on the current of life energy down
through the subtle spinal centres (chakras), it is called sub-consciousness. In
the process the consciousness loses its divinity. It identifies with body. It operates the body
mechanism through the life energy in physical brain, spine, and viscera.
Descending further, out into the muscles and
senses, the river of consciousness settles in the level of the ordinary waking
state. It enliven the muscular and
sensory activities of the body. It creates attach
-ments and material experiences.
The out flowing energy in the lower three
chakras, i.e. Manipura, Swadhistana, and Mooladharaq, man tries in vain to
quench the thirst of desires from the wells of sensory experiences. But worldly
pleasure is like salt water. It creates greater thirst.
Scientific yoga meditation quenches the
thirst of man’s spiritual thirst. If any
man is mad of desires, and lack of peace, must be attuned to Christ Consciousness.
Then that man will find that out of his belly—the ganglia of nerves with their
astral energy in solar plexus and in the lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal regions
of the spine—many rivers of light or life force. By meditation will flow up
through the spine into the nectar-bliss of Spirit in the brain. His thirst will
then be quenched.
Master the kriyayoga meditation through an
accomplished Guru preceptor. Withdraw the attention from the motor, and sensory
nerves, and heart. And withdraw from the subtle astral centre in the coccigeal
region. During deep meditation these accumulated life force (s) or
consciousness moves up through sacral, lumbar, dorsal, cervical, and medullary
centres. And finally reaches the abode of Spirit in the thousand-petaled lotus
of light and consciousness in the brain.
Remember the downward trend causes delusion
and world or physical consciousness.
Jesus said: But whosoever drinketh of the water
that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall
be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14
I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me
shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.” John
6:35
Jesus makes it clear man can satisfy his
soul thirst and hunger is by controlling the outgoing river of life and
consciousness.

The brimful Ocean
remains unmoved in spite of water entering and filling up fully. Likewise all
the sense pleasures will get eradicated and shall make the blissful yogi
unmoved. Such a Yogi will get peace and not the man who lusts after desires.
Jesus Christ was one of
the greatest yogis ever lived. He
demonstrated his God-union and mastered the principles of life and
consciousness.
Many of the people
therefore, when they heard this saying, said, “Of a truth this is the

John 7:40—53
That Christ would
come from the house of David and out of the town of Bethlehem was predicted in
the Judaic scriptures.
But thou, Bethlehem
Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee
shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth
have been from of old, from everlasting.
Micah
5:2
Thus Jesus, born to
David at Bethlehem. Without ascertaining
this fact, they were quick to accuse Jesus as an imposter. The officers sent by
Pharisees to arrest Jesus came away marvelling, saying, “Never man spake like
this man.”
Nicodemus the
Pharisee worshipped Jesus in secret. He ventured a mild defence of the Lord but Jesus was condemned.
