Discourse 27
To Fulfill the Law
The sermon on the Mount, Part ll
Think not that I had come to destroy the law or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
“Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
“For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, “Thou shalt not kill, and whosoever kill shall be in danger of the judgment’: But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, ‘Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, ‘Thou fool,’ shall be in danger of hell fire..
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there remeberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
“Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.  Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the utmost farthing.
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, ‘thou shalt not commit adultery’: But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
“And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.  And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
“It hath been said, “Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement’.  But I say unto you, that whosoever shall pout away his wife, saying for the cause of fortification, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
“Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, ‘Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto  the Lord thine oaths’: But I say unto you, swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great king.  Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.  But let your communication be, ‘Yea, yea’; ‘Nay, nay’: for whatsoever for more than these cometh of evil.
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for tooth’: But I say unto you, that ye resist not evil; but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
“And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.  And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
“Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy’.  But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you, that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His son to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
“For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?  Do not even the publicans the same?  And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?
“Be therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
                                                       Matthew 5:17--48
Think not that I had come to destroy the law or the Prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.                                                          Matthew5:17—18
Parallel refertence:
And it is heavier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.                                                                      Luke 16:17
Jesus spoke clearly about righteousness. Jesus was teaching Law of Moses to Jewish people. Ten commandments and other religious amd moral precepts set forth in the Torah.  The interpretation was degraded gradually due to human weaknesses, commercialism by pundits, and also of ignorance even though the scriptures are not to be tempered with.    Throughout history, it has been found that the priests’ dogmatic behavior leads to “I am right, you should listen to my interpretation”.  The priesthood wanted to have hegemony over these religious practices in spite of having lack of knowledge.  Without scientific meditation one cannot check the spiritual things. They will have little or no understanding of the scriptures.
Great prophets expose the pseudo religious distortions from the priestly classes. That is why Jesus said:  “I have not come to destroy the universal laws of righteousness, nor the ever true teachings of prophets, but to revive and fulfill them.”  Christ Intelligence is the Eternal principle that is governing all created manifestations.  That is why Cheist in Jesus declared: “Heaven and earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away”.
Moses fulfilled his special mission in the enunciation of the universal commandments of God.   Jesus came to reveal the Christ consciousness.  Goodness and truth manifests harmony, joy, and perfection.  “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.”  (John 1:17  Discourse 1)
All phenomena are the numerous manifestations one Divine Noumena.  This is hidden by Maya’s macabre masquerade.  Maters like Jesus shall manifest the Christ Consciousness and its  righteousness. Dharma or the universal laws upholds the objective manifestation of creation emanate for Divine Intelligence. So Jesus declared: “I tell you that it would be easier for the inconceivably vast causal, astral, and physical universes, ‘heaven and earth,’ to dissolve into nothingness than for even the tiniest portion of the divine lawto fail to prove its reality.”
“Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Jesus knew that all heavenly and earthly manifestations have the purpose of showing the unseen the seen.
Mathew 5:19--20
The kingdom of heaven is Christ Consciousness.  Here in this state the dwaitam or duality is abolished. In meditation the devotee gets the contact with God. It gives a sense of satisfaction, blessedness, and understanding.  It is like an average student getting distinction for the first time. This does not mitigate the past bad record all of a sudden. Likewise, the first God contact does not obliterate all of the effects of the past actions.  With continuous experience of God’s contact all the past karma stored up in several incarnations shall be burnt. The devotee shall be getting purified. The more he gets purified the more he is nearer to liberation. The more he gets purified the more he becomes Yogi. Jesus emphasized the difference between the superficial righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees who practiced religion by rote, and the righteousness of God-tuned life. The absolute righteousness comes by incessant meditation so that the devotee will be nearer to Truth i.e., God.
Some people do not even think about religion of God.  Some people satisfy themselves with one hour a week doing worship or reading a spiritual book or following few religious ceremonies without going into depth.  Very few go into depth by continuous scientific kriya yoga meditation and obtain Christhood and enter into kingdom of God.  That is why Jesus urged and all to heed: “If you want to enter the kingdom of God, your righteousness must exceed the ordinariness of theoretical religions beliefs and living, it must transform your consciousness and whole being.  Unless you follow the real way of actual God-communion in interiorized worship in deep meditation, your righteousness shall in no wise qualify you to enter the higheststate of Cosmic Consciousness, the heavenly bliss from which you can never fall again”.
Matthew 5:21—22
Jesus spoke of eternal laws of God’s creation in general.  Their observation imperative to obtain the kingdom of God.  He spoke of the ancient commandments:
“Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment.”                                              (See exodus 20:13)
God creates human life; one should not kill them.  It is to obstruct the emancipation of human souls through purification in the karmic fires.
Jesus said that murderous actions, in angry thoughts, and emotions. They give rise to such actions.  Jesus wanted you to love even your enemies. Don’t be angry without cause.   Man should not indulge in hostility and should not scorn his brothers under no circumstances lest he place himself in “danger of the judgment”  of the council  and of “hell fire”.   Jesus said: “Thou shalt not kill”  . He wanted that the thoughts, speech, and actions relative to killing must be strictly avoided.  He spoke in consonance with the sages of India who honor the scriptural injunction of ahimsa, inner and outer non-violence.
Once you have killed a mosquito in your mind and you have already killed it. One should have an impulse or the desire to kill at all. One should be free from evil thoughts. They are the basic cause of evil actions.  A true  follower of Ahimsa or non-violence, does not do it in any form, manasa (mentally) and vaachaa (by word), and karmana (by action).   But one has to use his discrimination. One should not offer himself as a food to a wild beast. Man’s life is precious compared to the beast. A man can protect so many living beings if he is alive. The holy Vedic Sastras or scriptures clearly indicate that the wanton loss of human body is a serious transgression of karmic law.   Hence killing a wild beast to save human life is minor fault here. If it is wrong then why Sri Rama, the hero of Ramayana, the holy book of India, could kill so many demons.   If it is wrong then why Sri Krishna, the hero of Srimadbhagavat, the holy book of India, could kill so many demons.  So many ants and other creatures were  killed, and are being killed daily while walking.
One man commits a murder and is hanged for it.  One soldier kills so many human beings in the battle field. He is being rewarded for it. It is the inner motive that differentiates it.  The law of cause and effect bestows good or bad fruits in accordance with bad or good actions. Every action—mental or physical—produces a resultin the form of a tendency, which is lodged in the mind as a karmic seed.  Lahiri Mahasaya gave those methods of meditation so that one can not only kill one’s karma but also the seeds of wrong karma. Scientific meditation harmonizes, the whole being, creating an inner calmness of self mastery. Every wrong action brings the calamity from “the judgment”.
Jesus said:  Words are very potent vibratory actions. They affect favourably or adversely the one who utters them and also the one whom they are directed.  “Raca” is derogatory term in Aramaic means ‘I spit on You’.       Ignorance is hell.  It engenders evil and burns wisdom.  True knowledge and wisdom are the source of salvation. The merciful God forgave man for so many faults who is struggling for the light of wisdom.
Jesus referred ‘hell fire’.  He means that the merciful God will not roast the sinners alive as their faults are temporary during their sojourn on earth.
Verily I say unto thee, thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the utmost farthing.                    ..                       Matthew 5:23—26
The latter part of the above verses is parallel in Luke 12:58—59, and is commented in the  Discourse 56
God does not take any offering from the temple altar.  He receives only devotion from the devotee.  You cannot give any offering to God as everything in fact belongs to Him.
Vedic system:
Yagnam: yat gnaatwa muktim pradatayati yagnam.
By knowing which you will be liberated is known as Yagnam. Putting firewood into the Fire Place or Yagnagundam is a replica of burning karma.
If you inhale (poorakam) and fill the kootastha (the place between eye brows) with life force fully and then exhale (rechakam) life force fully out of Moolaadhara chakra then there will be generation of electro magnetic force.
Surrendering Senses to GOD is called PRAYER.
Surrendering Ida, pingala & sushumna and 5 life forces is called sacred water ablutions (Abhishekamu) to GOD.
Surrendering antahkarana (Mind) is called lighting a candle before GOD. Surrendering all the six plexuses is called offering flowers to GOD.  Surrendering quality of fire in Manipura Chakra is called  burning incense stick before GOD.
Surrendering all your desires is called offering food (Naiwedyamu) to GOD.
Surrendering all the results of Karma to God is called Eeswara Pranidhaanam  or complete surrender.

Utility of Kriyayoga Meditation:
The meditation in plexus (chakraas) removes cruelty,
Meditation in Mooladhara chakra removes revengeful attitude & stealing quality.
Meditation in Swadhisthaana chakra removes doubtfulness.
Meditation in Manipura chakra removes hatred and one up-man-ship.
Meditation in anaahata chakra removes passionate mind & I am superior to everybody type of quality.
Meditation in Visuddha chakra removes greediness & chatter box quality Meditation in aagna chakraa chakra removes pride & hastiness.
Tapaha swadhyaayeswara pranidhaanaani kriyayogaha.
The combination of pranayama techniques, severe Penance, reading & understanding of scriptures, and total surrender to GOD is called Kriyayoga.
Patanjali is a replica of reunion of Atman and Brahman.

Jesus stressed the purity of heart to make the offered gift worthy of.
To seek reconciliation in forgiveness of wrongs is to please God in the forgiver and the forgiven. Inharmony results from enmity.  In fact no one can come out of the prison of inharmony unless he loses thelast farthing of anger, resentment, and vengefulness from within himself. God exists even in the heart of enemy. Hence a wise man does not lose the consciousness of the omnipresent God.
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, ‘thou shalt not commit adulter’: But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
“And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole bodyshould be cast into hell.  And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.                                                 Matthew 5:27—30
Jesus repeats this guidance in much the same words in Matthews 18:8—9.  His counsel in that context, as well as in Mark 9:45—48.
One should not only commit physical adultery  but also mental adultery is equally sinful.  No lustful physical glances, and mental sex thoughts both are not justified.  As per physical law, physical adultery is wrong. But as per divine law mental adultery is also wrong as without that physical adultery cannot take place.
Sanatana vaideeka dharma says the following ways tantamount to adultery.
1) to think lustfully about a woman,
2) to talk about a woman with lustful desire
3) to touch a woman with lustful desire
4) to gaze upon a woman with lustful desire
5) to hold private intimate talks with a woman with the ultimate hope of physical union
6) the act pf physical union without the consecration of marriage.
If man lives in perfect harmony with mental and physical and mental instruments he remains a spiritual being in charge of his body and mind. Sin is that which compromises that self mastery.  Unless the sex urge were to man from within, he would not feel the desire.   One should not utilize the sexual instinct solely to gratify sensual desire.  Jesus said: a married man should not do cohabitates without mutual consent. Both should mutually respectfully love and regard each other.  Jesus Christ said: If the mind becomes enslaved by desires due to sensory perception (eye) or sensory action (hand) it profanes the divine soul-image within man, leaving him oblivious of God.  Nothing in life, no matter how pleasurable, is of any value or lasting happiness if one remains ignorant of God.  Life becomes a ‘hell’ of insecurity with unforeseen disasters and grievous troubles.  It ius better that a man’s misuse of the senses and his wrong actions “should perish”.
How thoughtlessly people give up the kingdom of immortal bliss for their material desires for name, fame, lustful gratification, possession, money.  Christ said: It is more “profitable for thee” to cast off whatsoever casts the happiness of one’s true being into a “hell” of delusive soul-oblivion.
Matthew 5:31—32
This is drastic law to people who part from each other due to incompatibility of temper and then decide to marry someone else.  One should get married only when one finds soul unity with a proper mate.  Husband and wife should be mutually loyal to each other. They should have mutual love, respect, and remove uncontrolled lust on sexual plane. Divorce on flimsy grounds leads to sexual gratification and this should be avoided. People who marry and divorce time and again never give the divine love seed to grow.  Conjugal union should be mutually respected as a means of divine procreation.
“Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, ‘Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto  the Lord thine oaths’: But I say unto you, swar not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great king.  Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.  But let your communication be, ‘Yea, yea’; ‘Nay, nay’: for whatsoever for more than these cometh of evil.                                    Matthew 5:33—37
A solemn oath taken in name of God is morally and spiritually binding.  One should not make a hallow promise in the name of God and then resort to evasive or outright falsehoods or breaking the oath without consequence. The false oaths may not have an effect for the time being but they will have effects engendered in the consciousness. For this you yourself have sowed the seed in your consciousness. As you sow so you will reap. Don’t beholden anything by God, then you have to abide by that. God rests on His throne of Infinity.  This is hidden behind the walls of space and light rays.  The earth is the footstool of God. It is a place wgere God as the Creator works with His “feet” of motion and activity. One should not swear by any holy city like Jerusalem where so many saints had and have visited.  These holy cities like Varanasi, Thirupati, Srisailam, Amritsar, Puri, and Pandaripuram etc had and will have the sacred manifestation of the Royal God. It may be through His presence, worship, and realization of His saints. One should not swear by the Head as it is holy sanctuary of the soul. In conversation and argument, it is best to use :yea, yea”, or “nay”, “nay” calmly but emphatically. It should be restrained, concise, and truthful. A truthful person is always sincere and honest with or without swearing by God.
Matthew 5:38—42
Parallel reference:
“And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
“Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of himthat taketh away thy goods ask them not again”.        (Luke  6:29—30, Sermon on the plain)
An eye for an eye, and a tooth for tooth’ is a Mosaic law. It is to serve as a punishment.  It is deterrent to other would be criminals by making the punishment match the crime.  A literal reading may be justified.  In thewords of Moses, “have corrupted themselves…they are a perverse and crooked generation…neither is there any understanding in them.  O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end.”  Exodus 21:24,  Leviticus 24:19,, Deuteronomy 19:21, Deuteronomy 32:5, 28—29.  Spiritual laws are eternal truths. Their application differs from place, age, and according to the environmental nature.   Every social is bound by a code of justice.  It will uphold a standard human dignity, and restrains wrong doers.  Laws best fulfill their purpose  when they protect the innocent. They should encourage reformation of the guilty.
The “eye for an eye” law encourages punishment for revenge. In stead of teaching right action for wrong doer it may make him more hateful. To wreak vengeance does not stop the recurrence of an evil act rather it will encourage retaliation.
Jesus spoke of non-injury (ahimsa) in word, thought, and speech or action.  Jesus advises people to conquer evil by forgiveness and love.  Wrath increases wrath as fire increases by fire but water extinguishes fire.  So wrath is subdued by kindliness.   (A soft turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir  up anger. --- proverbs 15:1)
The ideal of non-retaliation is not supine surrender to wrongdoing. To turn the other cheek is not mental or moral weakness. It is not sahishnuta or enduring an abusive or violent relationship. It is to instill the strength of self-control without the influence of revenge.  Man should have more courage to follow non-violence. When somebody hurts you it iswise to pray God to change the heart of assailing person.  The early Christians were considered to be fools because of their non-violent resistance against Roman tyranny.  Later Jesus and his teachings proved to be correct. Jesus’ teachings flourished and Roman empire deteriorated into oblivion. The spiritual man sees God within and without.    Giving away one’s cloak as well as one’s coat seems to be unpractical in the present day times.  Sacrificing one’s material needs can best be practiced by saints only.  One should demand lawful justice from those who are unjust to him.
It is not spiritual to starve one’s family in order to be a philanthropist. Mahatma Gandhi had a mission to fulfill.  He had identified himself with the downtrodden people spiritually and materially. Non-attachment should accompany the sharing of one goods.
Jesus said: Give something within power.  Be always exercise soul quality of sympathy. Cultivate God consciousness. Be unselfish then He gives you more.
Matthew 5:43—45
Parallel reference:
“But I say unto you which hear, love your enemies, do good to tem which hate you, bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you…
“But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil”.
Luke 6:27—28, 35, Sermon on the plain
Love and forgiveness form the nucleus of the Christ teachings. Love is the manifestation of God. The evil and delusion divides and obscures and is the cause of inharmony.  Love is the basis on which the planets, and the whole universe are ratating and revolving on their respective axis. Hate, anger, revenge, are the byproducts of evil. They cause evil vibration (s).   Retaliation has never succeeded in eradicating scouge of enmity from man’s heart.  If wanted God could destroy the evil within a fraction of second. Instead He wanted to uses the faculty of love. Jesus wanted the people to use this faculty i.e., Love of God. Naughty or good, all are the children of God after all.  Hatred and anger becloud the divine image within us. One should behold God in friend and foe.
Forgive your enemy. Hate the enemy then the enemy will becomes more stronger, where as love and be kind to your enemy so as to make him realize his fault.  Jesus said: Bless them that curse you.  That is wish good for those who wish evil for you. Do good to them that hate you.   Not only should one mentally love a detractor, but actually do good to him.  Give up “holier-than-thou”  attitude.
Jesus urged: “Help all, and you will feel the pleasure of heartening others; help all, because God is your Father and everyone is your kin.  Love and help even your enemies in that spirit of divine brotherhood.  And your wisdom shall be great, for God’s Divine love shall grow within you; and by that you shall know you are not delimited mortals, but the children of the highest”.
“Pray for them that despitefully use you, and persecute you.”   Pray to God that He bless them with freedom from their hatred. God with “unhurrying chase, and perturbed pace” never stops pursuing His estranged children who forget Him.”
Suhrunmitraa ryudaaseena Madhyastha dweshya Bandhushu
Saadhushwapi cha Paapeshu Samabuddhir visishyate Bhagavadgita 6---9

He is a superior yogi who helps others with equal mindedness without expecting any returns from all—patrons, friends, foes, neutrals, mediators, relatives, hateful beings, and sinners. He treats all as the participant characters of a drama being played by Parabrahman.
God loves His children, regardless of merit, so also “that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven”, the true children of God open their hearts to all their human brethren.
God’s light of mercy shines equally on the good and the evil.   Charcoal cannot reflect the same amount of sunlight that the diamond does.  Similarly dark mentalities do not reflect God as do virtuous mentalities.  The prodigal child has to redeem himself by penitently making his back to God; the good son who walks in God’s light is already there.

“For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye?  Do not even the publicans the same?  And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so?
“Be therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
                                                       Matthew 5:46—48
Parallel reference:
For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? For sinners  also love those that love them.  And if ye do good to them which do good to you what thank ye? For sinners also do enen the same.  And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? For sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again….
“Be ye therefore mrrciful, as your Father also is merciful”
(Luke 6:32—34, 36,  Sermon on the plain)
God is kind and helpful to all.  His good children are merciful and sympathetic like God the Father.  God gives love to man silently. He talks to them lovingly in whispers. “Be therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
