Bible Discourse 26 The Beatitudes The sermon on the Mount, part 1

Discourse 26
The Beatitudes
The sermon on the Mount, part 1
(with reference from the sermon on the plain)
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain and when he was set, his disciples came unto him.  And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall all manner of  evil against you falsely, for my sake.
“Rejoice, and exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?  It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
“Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on hill cannot be hid.
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candle stick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
--Mathew 5:1--16
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain and when he was set, his disciples came unto him.                      --Mathew 5:1

When many people met him and the crowd was unmanageable. Jesus avoided the crowds. Jesus preferred the company of sincere devotee (s).  It is difficult to have personal magnetism with his sincere devotees. In those times he used to go to mountains for solitude.
And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
                                                         Mathew 5:2--3
 Parallel reference:
And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, “Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.          Luke 6—20, sermon on the plain.
Jesus showered his blessed devotees through his voice and eyes with his teachings.  He impregnated them with his Godly vibration and divine life force.  The bliss is for devotes who are free from material attachments.  Poverty “in spirit” means one should not settle for  material gains.  Jesus said, “Ye are blessed for your poverty.  It will open the gates to the kingdom of all sufficient God, who will relieve you from material as well as spiritual want throughout eternity.  Blessed are you who are in want and seek Him alone can relieve your deficiencies forever.”
“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”    (Mathew 5:4)
Parallel reference:
“Blessed are ye that weep now, for ye shall laugh”   (Luke 6:2) Sermon on the plain.
Ordinary person is worried about losing material possession and human attachment. Jesus never extols these negative things. He speaks about the separation from God consciousness that causes the divine melancholy.  Devoted people wail for God with ever increasing zeal in meditation for Him.  They shall find comfort in the revelation of Wisdom-bliss obtained from God. Those who neglect God endure painful sufferings with resentful and defeatist resignation. Instead they should solicit Divine Aid. To Her persistent child the Merciful Divine Mother always ready to provide solace of wisdom and love. She reveals Her presence through intuition or by a glimpse of Her own presence in some form or the other.
“But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall reach you all thingsand bring all things to your remembrance…”                                (John 4:26,  see Discourse 70)
Those who cry for God-realization are the blessed souls in reality.

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”   (Mathew 5:5)
Humbleness and meekness can make the people to hold the truth.
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled.”
                                                   (Mathew 5:56)
Parallel reference”
“Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled.”  (Luke 6:21, Sermon on the plain).
The devotee should acquire theoretical spiritual knowledge for salvation, then he should acquire practical knowledge. One ton of theory is equivalent to one gram of practical knowledge.  That is the way one should acquire spiritual truth of manna or elixir.  Sense pleasures pertains to body and lower mind.  They cannot satisfy the soul. Only bliss, immortality, spiritual behaviour, and virtue can satisfy the soul.  Righteousness means acting rightly i.e., physically, mentally, and spiritually.
“Blessed are you who thirst for wisdom and who esteem virtue and righteousness as the real food to appease your inner hunger, for you shall have that lasting happiness brought only by adherinf to divine ideals—unparallel satisfaction of heart and soul.”
“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”      Mathew 5—7

To err is human. So one should have mercy on erring children. It is the intrinsic quality of Divine Nature.  Jesus is an embodiment of mercy. It was sublimely manifest in his actions and personality. Like Father Divine like Son Divine. This is the case of all true Divine Sons of God or Masters.
The God of Moses depicted as a God of wrath and he spoke to God as face to face. Even God is portrayed as vengeful in Old Testament.  But this cannot be as God cannot be vengeful.
Jesus was so merciful that he begged God to forgive those who have crucified him.  “Forgive them for they know not what they do”.
God exists in each and every thing, moving and not moving things, alike.  A surgeon cuts and removes a rotten portion of the portion of the body  mercilessly.  That does not mean he is merciless. For Jesus people are like children with ignorance. When the children go astray, they deserve sympathy, forgiveness, help, and guidance.
“Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God”.        Mathew 5:8
The consummate religious experience is direct perception of God.  In order to obtain this one should have a pure heart.
Prasaantasta manasam hyenam yoginam sukhamuttamam
Upaiti saanti rajasam Brahma bhoota makalmasham             Gita 6--27
The yogi who is calm and Peaceful minded, without any impurities (desires, anger, greediness, delusion, pride, and jealousy), who is one with spirit, and blemishless (without any mala, vikshepana, and avarana doshas), is verily attaining the supreme Soul happiness.

Put a handfull of soil into a glass jar containg stilled water.  After some time that soil will settle in that water jar.  The solid things will settle at the bottom,  the subtle things will float on the top, and semi solid things will be moving in the middle of the jar.

Likewise the thoughts of Sadhak will be disturbing him in the initial stages of meditation or Sadhana. Not only it appears to the sadhak as though more and more thoughts are emanating due to Sadhana. If you do work then only one can judge ‘what you did is right or wrong.’ If you don’t do any work, then the question of judging right or wrong does not arise. If the sadhak continues his meditation or sadhana without any despair, then the thoughtlessness state can be achieved in due course.

Yunjannevam sadaatmaanam yogee vigatakalmashah
Sukhena Brahma samsparsam atyantasukhamasnute      Gita 6--28

This way the yogi who ceaselessly engages his mind on the Soul, becomes without impurities and can easily attains the blessedness of continuous mergence in Spirit.

Sarvabhootastha maatmaanam sarvabhootaanichaatmani
Eekshate yogayuktaatmaa sarvatra samadarsanah             Gita 6--29

With the Soul united with the Spirit by Kriya Yoga sadhana, with a vision of equality for all things, the Yogi beholds himself in all beings, and all beings in himself.

Yomaam pasyatisarvatra sarvancha mayipasyati
Tasyaaham na pranasyaami sachamena pranasyati            Gita 6--30

The Sadhak who beholds himself in all beings, and all beings in himself, then definitely he can find me, and also I will not lose sight of him.
Yogis, rushis, and munis of Bharat, India, have found out that Yoga science can reveal can only reveal the truth, the quest for God. Sage Patanjali says, “ Yogah chittavruddhi nirodhaha.”  Scientific union with God is Yoga.  It provides the steady mind with the neutralization of chitta, the inner power of mind.
Yoga is having Eight limbs
Four things will play a great part in Sadhana or meditation.  They are:
Mind, Breath, Sperm, and Life force.
1)Yama (moral conduct): Ahimsa (non-injury to others), Satyam (Truthfulness), Aasteyam (non-stealing), Brahmacharyam (cellibacy), and Aparigraham (non-covetousness)
2)Niyamam—saucham (purity of body and mind), santhosham (content ment), tapas (penance), swaadhyaayam (self study), eeswara prani dhaanam (Iswara as pure consciousness).
3)Aasanam (right posture)
4)Praanaayaamam (life force control)
5)pratyaahaaram (interiorization of attention)
6)Dhaarana (To make the restless mind steady)
7)Dhyaanam (to concentrate on God only)
8)Samadhi (Ecstatic union with God)
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God”.                                                          St.John’s Gospel
Swami Sri Yukteswarji, my Guru’s Guru or Parama Guru, has written his book of Holy Science in accordance with sanatana dharma.  In that he has equated his writings with Christ’s teachings. He wrote how heart will purify in man’s spiritual evolution.
Man’s consciousness is completely deluded by Maya.  It is called dark heart.  Then successively it crosses propelled heart, the steady heart, the devoted heart, and ultimately attains the clean heart state.  In this state man becomes  able to comprehend the spiritual Light, Brahmna (Spirit), the Real substance in the universe.
Transperancy to Truth is to be cultivated. For that man has to free the consciousness, the feelings of heart, the reasons of heart, from the Dwaitam or duality of attraction and repulsion. Chittam or sphere of thinking is to be calmed by meditation.
The nature of divine in-dweller is a harmonious blend of infinite wisdom and love.
Raagadwesha viyuktaistu Vishayaani Indriyascharan
Aatmavasyaih Vidheyaatmaa Prasaada madhi gachchati     64

The man of detatchment shall be able to act with senses and sense related objects with self control, and shall remain in pure mind in spite of experiencing them, unattached.
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”                                                                         Mathew 5:9
The devotee gets inner peace due to meditation. Peace who know God as the inner peace are the blessed ones. People want always Peace God within themselves. Not only that they want this Peace God to be always manifest in their homes, in the neighborhood, in the Nation, amongst all nationalities. Any one who removes misunderstanding between two souls, two nations, has in fact united them in God’s peace.
“Son of God” or “tat” consciousness makes one feel love for all beings. The real children will not feel any difference between an Indian, American, African, or any other nationality or race. Human beings have potentially more power than any other creature (s).  Man should use his power more judiciously lest he will destroy himself.  One should live like a true Krishna or Christ.  This will banish human conflicts and bring about peace.
“Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”.                                 Mathew 5:10
The kingdom of joy shall be bestowed on those people who should have “sahishnuta” or equanimity for good and bad alike. Come what may , one should not bend his right behavior for worldly joy.  Temptations and bad habits, however strong they may be, they must be resisted with the wisdom-guided power. The kingdom of consciousness is owned by king of Heavenly bliss.  It is owned by elevated souls who are merged in Him. That is why who unite one’s ego with God, shall be one with the king of Universe. “Theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.”
“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall all manner of  evil against you falsely, for my sake.
“Rejoice, and exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” Mathew 5:11—12
Parallel reference
“Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
“Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets”                                 Luke 6:22—23, Sermon on the plain.
One should be steadfast and even-minded in the face of worldly misunderstanding.  We should consider no loss when people hate and rebuke you. In that way you shall feel happy as you are separated from the evil souls. The spiritually dedicated people should not feel despondent if people speak ill of you.
Samassatrau cha mitrecha tathaa maanava maanayoh
Seetoshna sukha dukkheshu samassanga vivarjitah     Gita12—18

Tulyanindaa stutirmaubee santushtoyena kenachit
Aniketah sthiramatir bhakti maanme priyonarah           Gita12—19

The sadhak who is having equal mindedness towards friend, foe, insults and praises, cold and heat, happiness and grief, not having any interest in desires, not bothering blame and eulogy, not having mind inclined attachments, who maintains calm and quietness, gets contented with whatever he gets, not interested in acquiring own houses, wandering quality with no attraction towards staying in a particular fixed place, determination, and completely devoted to me, is dearer to me.
“To be persecuted for my sake” or “for the son of man’s sake” signifies being chastised for practicing spiritual methods is good.
Jesus spoke to his disciples as a Guru or saviour sent by God. “Blessed are you when for following the Son of man you are criticized and belittled for preferring to walk in the light of his God-tuned wisdom instead of stumbling with the masses along worldly paths of darkness and ignorance.”
Of course, to be hated, ostracized, reproached, or cast out is in itself no blessing if one is spiritually degenerated.
“Rejoice ye in that day, and feel the uplifting holy vibration of ever-new  joy; for behold, those who will toil and labour and accept pain to follow the divine way will be rewarded in heaven with eternal bliss.
“Those who persecute you are a continuity of the successive generations of those who persecuted the prophets.  Think to what great evil those forefathers came, and consider what rewardin heaven the prophets received from Godfor bearing the persecution from ignorant personsfor His name’s sake.  Holding on to spiritual principles , even if one has to lose his body as did the martyrs of yore, brings the reward of divine inheritance of God’s kingdom of Everlasting exultation.”
‘Great is your reward in Heaven’ signifies the state of eternal bliss felt in stabilizing the divine contact of God experienced in meditation.
One will obtain one’s reward in this life or after life in accordance with one’s karma. Advanced souls shall experience the ever-newly joyous self-realization by meditation. Gradually the spiritual eye opens.
Jesus says advanced souls get great reward. Even a lesser measure of blissful God communion will bring a commensurate heavenly reward.
Api swalpasya traayate mahato bhayat.  (Bhavadgita)
Righteous people may resist temptation but they are not fully free themselves from delusion.  They are rewarded after death with a rejuvenating rest in the astral heaven amongst half-angels and half-redeemed souls.  Their life is superior to earthly life. They enjoy in accordance with their karma. The remaining karma of theirs pull them back to physical body. Completely liberated souls harbour no more desires.  Souls who are anchored in truth and return to earth at the command of God to lead others to spiritual ways.  These Completely redeemed souls become permanently fixed as pillars in Cosmic Consciousness.  They reincarnate on earth only to provide solace to spiritual thirsty earth bound souls and bring them back to God.
“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out.”                                     Revelation  3:12

Third eye

The description of third eye in Kootastha, the place between the eye brows in the centre of fore head,  is given below:

God in Creation(Blue)
SriKrishnaChaitanya
  (Tat)

5 Pointed Silver star
God beyond Creation
    (Sat)

Ohm Generator
Yellow color

In deep and intensive Meditation yogi will experience Soul or self in Kootastha as a great effulgence, pure Wisdom, and Ohm sound.  This is called THIRD EYE.  Any amount of  spiritual discourses one may hear and may read, he cannot get a vivid experience. Only through Kriya yoga meditation one will gain real experience. In third eye with deep meditation or Dhyaana the meditating devotee or sadhak may behold a inverted Triangle.
On Top the Sadhak will see White (Positive), Red colour on right side, and on left side Black colour.
If white is predominant then the Satwik is dominating in the consciousness of Yogi, Red is predominant then the Rajo i.e., Neutral is dominating, and if Black is predominant then the Tamo i.e., negative is dominating. If all these colours of the Triangle are equally predominant the consciousness of Yogi is in equanimous state.  Yogi should incessantly make efforts to obtain this equanimous state.

Red(Rajo)Neutral

White(Saatwik)
      Positive

Black
(tamo) negative
Man will have two types of wisdom from the inception of birth.
1)Logic power that arises from senses. This is called Manava chetana or human consciousness,
2) Cosmic power that comes from Parabrahman, God the Father. This is called Paramatma chetana or Cosmic consciousness.

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted?  It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
“Ye are the light of the world.”                          Mathew 5:13--14
In Jesus’ time it was an appropriate comparison of his disciples to the salt of the earth.  People had to carry the large rock salt in hot sun.  To quench their thirst they had lick it to escape from dehydration. That is why “you have eaten my salt” usage has come in vogue about the life giving salt. In ancient civilization the first trading routes were established to acquire this important commodity, rock salt. Spiritual persons are ‘the salt of the earth’ (important persons) and ‘light of the world’.   Jesus says that if salt loses its savour the food becomes useless.  Similarly if humans lose their soul qualities then what is the use of their living?  Humans are the light of the world.  That means they are to shed light lest what is their utility? Hence man is the salt of the earth.  And they are the light of the world. They only are endowed with all living lamp of a potentially limitless intelligence and other living beings do not have that.

A city that is set on hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candle stick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”               Mathew 5:14—16
Lighted candles are not be kept under a bushel basket rather put on candle sticks so as to shed their light. Likewise souls are to be illuminated with the consciousness of God.  They are not to be covered with ignorance, uselessness, materiality, and death.
No saint likes to perform miracles or display his divine powers to prove himself to disbelievers.  Awakened souls shine with the light of God.
