Discourse 19
“My Meat is to do the Will of Him That Sent Me
The woman saith unto him, “I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.”
Jesus saith unto her, “I that speak unto thee am he.”
And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, “What seekest thou?” or, “Why talkest thou with her?”
The woman left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, “Come see a man, which told me all things that ever I did:  Is not this the Christ?”  Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
In the meanwhile his disciples prayed him, saying, “Master eat.”
But he said unto them, “I have meat to eat that ye know not of.”
Therefore said the disciples one to another, “Hath any man brought him ought to eat?”
Jesus saith unto them, “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.  Say not ye, “There are yet four months , and then come the harvest?  Behold I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.  And he that reapeth, receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that he both soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.  And herein is that saying true, “One soweth, and another reapeth.’  I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.”
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, “He told me all that ever I did.”
So when Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.  And many more believed because of his own word; and said unto the woman, “Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this indeed is the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”
--John 4:25—42
The woman saith unto him, “I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.”
Jesus saith unto her, “I that speak unto thee am he.”
And upon this came his disciples, and marveled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, “What seekest thou?” or, “Why talkest thou with her?”
The woman left her water pot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, “Come see a man, which told me all things that ever I did:  Is not this the Christ?”  Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
--John 4:25—30
The woman of Samaria received the telepathic message of God and Christ Consciousness from Jesus. She was seeking confirmation with some hesitation. Like Great saints Jesus was also hiding his Christhood. God wanted to declare his Christhood through the woman of Samaria.
Jesus could discern the quality of souls which his other disciples travelling with him were lacking. This is what they have observed in him.  His warmth behavior towards a common woman which was against the customs and conditions prevailing at that time that too without considering caste and class distinction surprised them.  “Caste” is divisive evil.  It deeply embeds ego in man. It cedes its power to the wisdom and soul magnanimity of one such as Jesus.
The woman was  divinely happy in meeting Jesus. She forgot her past moral blemishes and she was happy in receiving wonderful soul healing. She thus became the first among the general populace to act as a public messenger to declare Jesus the Christ.
In the meanwhile his disciples prayed him, saying, “Master eat.”
But he said unto them, “I have meat to eat that ye know not of.”
Therefore said the disciples one to another, “Hath any man brought him ought to eat?”
Jesus saith unto them, “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.”
--John 4:31—34
Paramahansa Yogananda used the term “Meat” in his New Testament commentary used by King James Bible.  Other Bibles in English used the term “food” which is a translated word.  The original Greek word is “broma’ meaning “that which is eaten.”
The Samaritan woman went to bring townspeople to Jesus. His disciples brought food from the city to him. Jesus said: “I have meat to eat that ye know not of.”   Jesus said: You do not know what food I take.
Jesus said: “My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.”    Jesus healed that woman and as such he was in a very exalted state.  He was attuned with the divine power of Christ Consciousness. By this Jesus means that his food was coming directly from God.  That is why he said before: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the God.”
Jesus was conscious of his connection with God every moment.

Say not ye, “There are yet four months , and then come the harvest?  Behold I say unto you, lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.  And he that reapeath, receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit life eternal: that he both soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.  And herein is that saying true, “One soweth, and another reapeth.’  I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.”
--John 4:35—38
“As you sow, so you shall reap.”  This is the law of karma. If you identify yourself with Spirit, you will reap without measure the wealth of Divinity. Your soul is having everything and it does not need anything.  The moment man’s body consciousness transcends into Self realization, the soul’s contact with God becomes manifest.  This is the superior law of the Divine Harvest.
You can harvest the human intelligence through senses and rational intelligence.  The Divine Wisdom can be harvested through intuition by steadying the senses and mind through Kriya yoga meditation. Jesus exhorted, “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields.”  That is transcend your consciousness and harvest the field of wisdom of intuition.
And he that reapeateth, receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit life eternal. You reap your soul knowledge through scientific meditation. Then you will receives the wages of Divine Wisdom and get the eternal fruits.
“that he both soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together” means God is the sower of wisdom. God is happy when his children reaps the harvest grown  by Him.
“One soweth, and another reapeth.’  means that not only you get the harvest but also that others are influenced by you.
“other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.” means that worldly people are concerned about material possessions that are perishable. The devotees should not follow them foolishly.
Human life is affected by mass karma as well as individual karma. The fruits of  spiritual awakening are beneficial to us but also to others at large.  Because of one’s Divinity others travelling by the same bus may be saved from mishap that may about to occur. If you light a candle that gives light to others also who are in darkness.  If you burn a incense stick, its fragrance shall be smelled equally by others around you also.
And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of woman, which testified, “He told me all that ever I did.”
--John 4:39—42
A spiritual teacher do not depend upon the media of commercial publicity and advertisement. Wanton spiritual promotion or quackery is highly deplorable and despicable.  Word of mouth was the medium of publicity.  Just like fragrance of flowers real spiritual teacher draw eager souls to divine teachings. Jesus attracted myriads of people by his divine presence. Great saints who experience God-contact share their love and healing powers with the other God-loving peoples.  This will help the disciples to receive healing and also they broadcast with sincerity the master’s ability to serve and to heal the needy. The sayings of the woman about Jesus believed by many of the Samaritans. When Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.
Many persons are initially attracted to a master through the testimonials of benefitted followers and others through his highly spiritual vibrations. “Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this indeed is the Christ, the Saviour of the world.”
