Bible Discourse 9 Jesus Meets His First Disciples
Discourse 9
Jesus Meets His First Disciples
Again the next day after John stood, and two of his
disciples; and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, “Behold the Lamb of
God!” And the two disciples heard him
speak, and they followed Jesus.
Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith
unto them, “What seek ye?”
They said unto him, “Rabbi, (which is to say, being
interpreted, Master,) “where dwellest thou?”
He saith unto them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where they dwelt, and abode
with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
One of the two which heard John speak, and followed
him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, “We have
found the Messiah,” which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld
him, he said, “Thou art the Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas,” which is by
interpretation, a stone.
The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee,
and findeth Philip, and said saith unto him, “Follow me.”
--John 1 35—43
The great masters bring the selected elevated souls
when they come on earth. This is to help them in the past of liberation.
Several followed Jesus in his present incarnation. 12 disciples were chosen to
follow his path in thi incarnation i.e., Jesus. Amongst these chosen one was
proved to be wicked subjecting himself to delusion. He is the real disciple who
emulates his Guru in letter and spirit without any coaxing whatsoever. Bhagavan Krishna and
In this John Baptist played a main role in the
selection of disciples. They were the past life disciples of Jesus. Andrew was
the brother of Simon Peter. This Andrew
and an another unnamed person have
joined Jesus as disciples as recommended by John the Baptist. They addressed
Jesus Rabbi, or Master. In Bharat it is equivalent to Guruji or Guru Deva. Master is equivalent to Latin word magnus
akin to Mahat or maharishi in Sanskrit. It
tantamount to great knower of God. It is
wise to learn from one who knows Him lest blind leads blind. Jesus said: ‘Can the blind lead the blind?
Shall they not both fall into the ditch?’
Luke 6
A Master is he who knows in what lies the best
interest of his true Self, the Soul, and so never evil in thought or deed.
Jesus was true Guru as such he drew Andrew by the
spiritual magnetism of his God-realization.
The first contact between Guru and disciple itself shall awaken the past
bonding and relationship. The sum total of a person is expressed in his
magnetism.
Some highly elevated persons can spiritualize or heal
others, even a whole audience, just by the magnetism of the eyes. So attracted
by his Christ magnetism, Simon proclaimed to his brother: “We have found the
Messiah”. Messiah comes from Hebrew
Mashiakh, the anointed. Jesus (Isa,
Lord of Creation) was his family name. Jesus means divine child. Christ means
Messiah. The Krishna Consciousness is known as Christ Consciousness.
See the similarity between Krishna and Christ. May be
Christ title was bestowed on him during his sojourn in Bharat. The date of Sri
Krishna’s incarnation is uncertain. Yadava is the family name of Krishna.
God does not reveal Himself in the beginning to an
undeveloped truth seeker. God
uses an enlightened Master, Guru preceptor, to bring the devotee unto Himself
through sadhana, a practical way of finding path. However a
knowledgeable a person may be, his practicality must go hand in hand in order
to find God. God realization must be
pragmatic and not dogmatic. To choose a Guru, discretion and caution is
must. One must be loyal to his Guru
after that. Unconditional divine love, eternity, and friendship between Guru
and disciple is the psalm of life. That
is why Upanishad says:
Om sahanavathu sahanau bhunaktu sahaveeryam kuruvaavahai
Tejeswinaam adheetamastu maa vidvishaavahai
Om
shanti Om shanti Om shanti
Many were with Jesus at the feasts and sermons, but how few t the cross.
In Andrews, Jesus found the receptivity to intuit the presence of the
Christ Consciousness in the bodily vehicle of the Master. In Simon Peter Jesus
discerned a divine strength on which to build the early foundation of his
teachings. Jesus predicted that the spiritual life of Simon would be as strong
as tone. (Hebrew: cephas; Greek: Peter,
“a rock’).
Jesus remembered he was a preceptor to his disciple Philip about their
past association. Following the wisdom guidance of Guru Jesus, his disciple
Philip could be bestowed freedom of will and liberation lest he will be stung
by Satan who is a Universal metaphysical tempter and He will by every means
instigate faulty reason and unspiritual behavior in the virtuous devotee on the
spiritual path.
Sri Yukteswar, Gnanavatar, wisdom personified, was the Guru of Sri
Yogananda. When he accepted Yogananda for spiritual training he told Yogananda: ‘Allow me to discipline you, for
freedom of will does not consist in doing things according to the dictates of
prenatal or post natal habits or of mental whims, but in acting according to
the suggestions of wisdom and free choice. If you tune in your will with mine,
you will find freedom.’ “Comprehending
that wisdom from a Guru, thou will not again fall into delusion. Even if you are the chief sinner among all
sinners.” Gita IV 35—36
The Godly Guru will not have any self interest.
